April has Easter, May has the 24th of May weekend, July has either Canada Day or Independence Day (depending on which side of the border you’re on), but what is the holiday weekend in June? Hmmm.
So how was your long weekend? Mine was busy. Friday, when most normal people are contemplating the fact that it’s Good Friday, the husband and I were out raking the back yard. The thing you’ve got to understand about the back yard is that it’s about three or four times the size of the front yard. At one point we decided we’d hit on a new form of suicide: death by raking.
We did all but the very back on Friday. Just a narrow strip left, but it also had the most leaves since they tend to collect in the pond garden, along the back fence, and the long, narrow, rose garden is buried in leaves for the winter. So Saturday we did the very back of the yard.
Something you must understand about the rose garden, you cannot just rake the leaves out of it. The idea of putting down the black gardening cloth and covering it with bark chips was a good one, until it came time to uncover the roses in the spring. In order to preserve the bark chips one must remove the heaps of leaves by hand. Trust me, it’s not as much fun as it sounds.
Now we have a retaining wall of 18 brown bags of leaves guarding the front of the house, waiting for the town to come by for the leaf pick up.
I also, over the long weekend, cleaned the house, did the grocery shopping, made a huge pot of chili, and did a pile of mending I’ve been putting off. The husband also napped. :-)
edited to add: Let's face it. Since I really have no reason to get up early in the morning, I haven't been. So these nice, early posts of mine are actually written the night before and scheduled using the Post Options feature on the blog. However, one must remember that when one is using this feature before midnight, one must also change the time from PM to AM. Which I forgot to do. Which is why this post didn't show up at 8:30 AM like it was supposed to. *sigh*
